Online learning for kids has been a lesser explored area compared to other forming of online learning. But owing to unforeseen circumstances, we see that more and more educational institutions are coming up with free online learning resources and remote learning resources.
Keeping in mind the fact that most of us are new to this, it is important to note that there will be an initial resistance and some “getting used to” both for the kid as well as the parent. So factoring in all these pointers, we have brought out a list of 6 tips that you as a parent can use to make the online learning for kids, a smooth one!
MAKE A DEDICATED SPACE FOR LEARNING
We as humans are slaves to a level of distraction in our lives. So it is important that your kids have a separate space dedicated to them which they use while studying. It can be a study table or a separate room, make sure that you inculcate the habit of making them go to their space to complete their online learning.
Make sure that you have a digital time off in place where the kids do not have access to apps, mobile games, entertainment, etc. They can access it once they complete their due homework.
Much like in school, make sure that your kids take adequate breaks in between their online learning classes. It helps to have a proper schedule in place to ensure that your kids have breaks in between for recess and play.
FACTOR IN PHYSICAL LEARNING AS WELL
It is no wonder that kids and adults alike find remote learning a bit challenging at times. More so with kids because, boredom starts to crawl in and they lose interest quite frequently. Thus, make sure that you have adequate offline resources as well such as worksheets and books for them to work on physically.
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH OTHER PARENTS
Now that the brunt of home schooling your kids in on your shoulders, you might be experiencing a mild case of teacher anxiety to check if you are doing it right. It will always help to keep in touch with your kid’s peers and their families. You can also encourage your kids to speak with their peers over calls and video chats to make sure that they are not completely removed from the outside world.
REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN
We know not how long we might be stuck with remote learning but for what it’s worth, make sure you and your kid have fun doing it. Engage in fun games with them and make sure you take an active involvement in their lessons and classes. Sit with them through their homework and let it be known that you can always be relied upon for help.
While most of the remote learning resources are fast catching with the people of the world, it can feel a little lonely and sometimes even boring. But these tips should definitely help with beating the blues and helping you get started on your kid’s online education.
